Single-chip breakthrough combines Bluetooth, Bluetooth low energy, GPS and FM radio technologies

BlueCore7 is a breakthrough solution for adding wireless-related connectivity features into mobile handsets. Combining Bluetooth, Bluetooth low energy (ULP), enhanced GPS and FM radio reception and transmission, the single-chip is the world's most highly integrated wireless solution for embedded applications.

CSR has created many innovative RF chips that combine Bluetooth functionality with other attractive consumer features. The ROM-based BlueCore7 takes this formula to a new level, with no less than four major wireless systems, giving handset development teams a tiny and power-efficient platform to create exciting new product ranges.

Key functions are:

  • A Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR radio delivering +10dBm output and -93dBm sensitivity
  • An AuriStream voice CODEC that can provide fixed line call quality to a Bluetooth headset, or reduced power consumption
  • A Bluetooth low energy radio - very low-power mode for handsets when communicating with devices such as watches, training shoes, TV remote controls, etc.
  • Enhanced GPS, a revolutionary platform for integrating universal positioning capability into handsets, offering fast and reliable positioning data - even deep indoors - with minimal impact on battery life
  • An FM radio receiver and short-range transmitter. The receiver has speaker drivers for direct connection to headphones. The transmitter can stream audio such as MP3 files to an FM receiver (with track names via RDS).

By sharing radio resources, and using innovative power conservation and coexistence technologies, BlueCore7 offers handset developers a suite of complementary features that can be applied in combinations to create complete product ranges.  Use the links to find out more, or call your local CSR office to discuss the technology.
