It is 87 days from now until the start of the global bicycle race, or two months, 26 days, 2088 hours, 125,280 minutes, 2088 hours, 7,516,800 seconds (minus a few as I type). You can see me getting some practice in at my sponsor’s Cambridge headquarters.
The past month has seen me complete the three Mayor Challenge on behalf of Map Action. I set a time of two hours to complete the 25 miles or so between three key towns of Amersham, High Wycombe and Aylesbury in the UK. Well this was done successfully on Michelle the www.csr.com battle bike despite mother nature throwing in some nasty hills that I hadn’t banked upon and a (cough) slight navigation error which was down to the sun in my eyes!
Training this month has seen me pushing myself climbing in the Lake District and Scotland’s Munros while carrying extra weight in the back packs.
Michelle the CSR Battle Bike is now complete and rides like a dream. While not built for speed like some of the other riders she is clearly a cycle that I can comfortably spend 18+ hours in the saddle now which bodes well for pulling all nighters on the ride.
I have reviewed all my kit list, then re-reviewed it and reviewed a third time and I’m astonished to say that I have all that I now need minus a couple of visas! It is a great feeling to feel ‘almost’ ready.
So the coming month…
Not for me the loud office parties and excessive consumption, instead it’s a sprint down Duxford runway to the sounds of Queen and ‘want to ride my bicycle’ and into the hanger for a presentation to my sponsor CSR. It’s going to be great!
There are now only three updates to send out prior to departure!
