Cambridge Wireless Location SIG

Indoor Location SIG hosted by CSR is a thought provoking success!

Cambridge Wireless is a local networking organisation promoting the exchange of ideas in a variety of subjects. Many different Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have been formed, one of the oldest being the Location SIG. This group has a special interest in all subjects associated with Locations. CSR is a founding member of Cambridge Wireless and regularly host events.

On the 10th of May, CSR hosted a Location SIG event titled: “Indoor Location – what is the value to consumers and industry?” and we were asked to provide the keynote speech.

“Cambridge Wireless was delighted when CSR agreed to host and present at our Location Special Interest Group on Thursday 10th May. Over 65 Cambridge Wireless members convened in Churchill House, CSR, to explore pertinent topics around Indoor Location”, Soraya Jones, CEO of the Cambridge Wireless, told us.

In addition to our Keynote speech, three other presentations were heard:  Dr Ramsey Faragher from BAE Systems, a previously CPS/CSR sponsored PhD student, talked about a compelling method for mapping indoor environment using a combination of VHF capture and off the shelf MEMS sensor using Particle Filtering techniques; Sharon Biggar, from Path Intelligence, presented her perspective about using location information in the context of Retail Analytics and Dr John Gill gave his perspective on usage of indoor location based services for Disabled People.

Soraya Jones commented, “The event was fascinating with a broad range of key industry speakers and provoked some great debating points and the feedback we received gave the impression that there is an incredible amount of interest in this key topic. We are extremely grateful to the speakers for providing such interesting topics for debate and to CSR for hosting this thought-provoking event.” Clare Kettle, Head of Operations at Cambridge Wireless supported this by stating, “CSR’s involvement in Indoor Location Services is immense, and having our event hosted by them was ideal. Networking is always a high priority for us and the CSR team and building provided the perfect atmosphere, the food was delightful, and the feedback from delegates has been extremely positive.”
