The aptX® Revolution!

At CSR we are gearing up for the IFA Berlin next week. At the show we will be showcasing many of the aptX enabled phones, tablets, speakers and headphones that make up the aptX ecosystem of products.  This ‘ecosystem’ as we call it is growing at an astonishing rate. In the past 12 months many of the world’s leading Consumer Electronics manufacturers have adopted aptX to deliver high quality Bluetooth Stereo audio for products including smartphones, tablets, speakers and headphones. Many of the most anticipated and talked about product launches this year have included aptX – the HTC One X, the Samsung Galaxy S3 and new Bluetooth products from Beats, Denon, Klipsch and Harman Kardon. There are now over 100 aptX enabled products available worldwide and this number continues to grow rapidly – on a weekly basis we are seeing new aptX enabled products launched.

I think it’s safe to say that aptX has revolutionized the Bluetooth Stereo listening experience.  Traditionally Bluetooth Stereo has suffered from a so-so reputation for audio quality, but aptX has changed that, and in simple terms users can now benefit from CD-quality audio wirelessly.  This perceived ‘so-so’ sound quality was one of the main reasons many of the higher end audio companies were reluctant to dabble in Bluetooth Stereo, they didn’t want to damage their audiophile reputations, and they knew that consumers weren’t totally bought into ‘going wireless’. As always the world has quickly moved on and the demand from consumers to go wireless has increased, driven in part by the convergence of mobile devices and the increasingly demanding, tech-savvy consumer. As a user I want to be able to stream my music wirelessly from my smartphone while still being able to tweet, email, facebook or talk on the phone. I also don’t want to compromise on audio quality, I’m handing over my hard earned cash and I want the best possible audio experience – wirelessly.

As the ecosystem grows so does brand and consumer awareness of aptX technology, all aptX enabled products carry the ingredient branding on product packaging and tech journalists have hailed the technology as the ‘shining hope for wireless’ audio.  Next week at IFA, we’ll see many new aptX enabled product launches and as the ecosystem continues to grow we’ll be sure to keep you up to date!
