CSR gears up for “connected car” showcase

CSR’s Automotive Infotainment team is gearing up to showcase its ground-breaking new connectivity products at the Telematics Detroit 2013 Conference & Exhibition over two days in June, the 5th and 6th. Held in Novi, Michigan in the heartland of the US automotive industry, this major industry event brings together the global telematics ecosystem to master the “connected car” user experience and build brand affinity. Here are some of the event highlights: over 100 expert speakers (from the likes of GM, BMW, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes-Benz) will deliver their visions for the connected car and the evolving automotive apps ecosystem that is set to revolutionise consumer interaction with the vehicle; a quintet of conference tracks including sessions on connectivity business models, end-to-end telematics platforms, V2X technologies, big data, and open app development.

First Bluetooth low energy profiles published

Bluetooth low energy Heart Rate Monitor Profile has been adopted by the Bluetooth SIG, along with health thermometer this marks the first profiles to be adopted for the Bluetooth 4.0 specification.

It has been a long time coming with the core Bluetooth 4.0 specification adopted in July 2010 , but it is clear that this is the start of the process of a large number of profile releases.

Bluetooth Low Energy – A New Era for Bluetooth

For over a decade Bluetooth has dominated the personal area connectivity space. During that time a multitude of profiles have been developed to describe various end-user scenarios. Ironically, the audio-based applications continue to dominate the usage cases that consumers really use.

At the time of writing, according the SIG website, nearly 60% of all qualifications to-date have been for products that use audio as their primary mode of operation. Data is still important, but to most consumers Bluetooth is for audio and Wi-Fi is for large chunks of data.

With the recent addition of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to the Bluetooth specification, Bluetooth enters a new era.
