BlueVox DSP: high-end performance at entry-level prices
BlueVox DSP introduces a brand new product category into the Bluetooth mono headset arena, providing the first ever low-cost single-chip ROM solution incorporating a DSP.
The DSP holds the key to a breakthrough in audio quality, by running CSR's Clear Voice Capture (CVC) echo and noise cancellation technology. A single microphone algorithm is included in the chip, but for superior noise cancellation a dual-microphone version can be enabled. In conjunction with support for CSR's optional AuriStream CODEC - which enhances the quality of the Bluetooth voice link - BlueVox DSP opens up major new market niches and upgrade paths for headset vendors and their user communities. Despite all these features, the eBOM is less than $6, a similar level to many basic designs for mass-market headsets! Key features include:
- Advanced DSP-based CVC echo and noise reduction
- 1-mic CVC is by default enabled (no licence fee)
- 2-mic CVC is a licensed upgrade offering an extra 20dB noise reduction
- Compatibility with Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR (which includes 'secure simple pairing')
- Low power consumption through DSP technology gives over 8hrs talk-time from a standard low-cost 120mAh battery
- Superior RF performance with +8dBm transmit power and -90 dBm receive sensitivity for longer range and reliable audio link
- Simultaneous headset connection to two phones
- CSR's AuriStream CODEC for enhanced audio or lower power consumption
BlueVox DSP is based on BlueCore5-Multimedia ROM, with integral, low-power 24-bit Kalimba DSP core and high quality CODEC, and is available in 7 x 7 mm BGA, or 8 x 8 mm QFN package. The sub-$6 eBOM is based on the QFN version with a single microphone., offering a 20% BOM saving compared to Flash based platforms.
